Ahh yes, harumph harumph, a most timely expounding upon of a reasonably salient issue.

I cannot think of anything more displeasing to my sense of propriety than the vulgar linguistic debauchery of today's young people. I do not know what a "dude" is, but I can say with certainty that I have never encountered that 'word' in my many readings of Cicero, Plutarch, or even, heaven forfend, Herodotus.
Why, just this morning as I was refilling my Chesterton pipe with fine tobacco from the subcontinent, a d-mnable assemblage of youthly villains was heard outside my window employing such grossly unrefined verbiage as would turn the ears red of even the most lowly of Portsmouth merchants.
Harumph. |

You fucking impressed me.
|
|
Okay, not really, but I did enjoy the way your fucking smug satisfaction came across.
But what would have truly impressed me, would have been if you would have "gotten" the goddamn flavor of the site.
It is godfuckingdamnit, btw, and while we appreciate a good rant if you can't get worked up enough to throw in a few well placed fucking curse words, you just really don't get it and you bore me.
But, wtf, who the fuck needs to fucking get pissed off and rant anyway. |

You're right, you're not a typical newbie.
|
|
You're worse; you're the kind of newbie who thinks he "gets it". You look around and you can't believe how idiotic everyone is. You mock those you perceive to be beneath you. You take a perverse pride in your dedication to proper English and traditionalism.
I've got news for you, kid: you're an ASSHOLE, and that doesn't make you better than anyone. Trust me, if anyone's qualified to deliver you THAT message, it's me.
I used to be like you once: self-assured, derisive, vainglorious. I still am, to a degree, but I try very hard to recognize when I'm being that guy and back off of it. I'm not any better than anyone else. Nature doles out its survival mechanisms where she may. Anytime you think your intelligence makes you superior, try using it on Juan Manuel Marquez.
Being smart doesn't make you inherently better. Intelligence on the level that humans enjoy is a fairly recent evolutionary development, and it's by no means necessarily the best one, nor a permanent one. It may be that future generations of neo-homonids will need far less intelligence and far more speed, which is exactly what acronyms like "lol" and "wtf" provide: shortcuts in linguistic communication.
Even setting all that speculation aside, do you really want to live in a world where you think you're better than everyone? Where does that tendency end? You going to complain about disabled people next? How about the emotionally disturbed? It's a short hop from your kind of self-aggrandizing smugness to Sharon Angle "get over your rape" territory.
There are no absolutes, kid. There's only a contiguous spectrum of perspectives and relative gains. One day, if you're very lucky, you may find that "stupid" people are also people. |

What are you angry about? Typos? Abbreviations?
Dumbass, there's a ASTEROID headed for us! The earth is erupting its lifeblood from an unsealable fissure, the DNA of CORN is owned by a nightmare conglomerate, the tuna are almost gone, you have inoperable bowel cancer that no test can detect, and EVEN FUTURAMA SUCKS NOW.
You're worried about GRAMMATICAL ERRORS? Proud of a few extra IQ points? God damn it I can't even remember what you wrote about, it was so trite.
Get the fuck out of here with that petty bullshit. |

Although I do agree you are quite smug, I also agree that language is slowly dying. A big part of that is the introduction of IM and texting... I see 15 year olds posting sad messages like "I don't no why he brok up weth me." And sadly many 30, 40 and 50 year olds are not much better.
I see your point about our world in crisis. However, if we don't teach our kids proper grammar and basic math skills to start, I see Idiocracy the movie coming to fruition. Take away some video games and phone time and introduce yourself and your children to a text book or the awesome resources the internet or a library have to offer. |

What is wrong with highs standards? What is wrong with smugness? "Stupid people are people?"
Jesus Harold Christ on a razorwire dildo, next you'll be asking, "Why can't we all just get along?"
He may be a fellow asshole, but he, too, has a right to rant here. |

| Just as we have a right to call bullshit and make fun. I do enjoy my "highs" standards though, much better than having your highs standard. |

nobody has "rights" here, you yammering simp.
Secondly, if you have to ask "what's wrong with smugness," you'll never comprehend the correct answer. |
